Day 3

Today was a looooong day!  We started out at Dealey Plaza in Dallas where President Kennedy was  assassinated in 1963.  We walked around the area and visited the Kennedy Memorial.  We also saw the cabin of the first settler in Dallas.  Then we headed to the Fort Worth Stockyards where we saw Billy Bob's and ate authentic Texas barbecue (not as good  as North Carolina's).  We got to see a reenactment of a cattle drive and the old railroad turntable they used to turn train engines around.  We also drove by the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington.  Then we headed west across Texas on Interstate 20 through Abilene, Sweetwater, and Big Springs. We passed through cattle country and then into oil country.  We saw many oil wells, some in the middle of cotton fields.  We also saw thousands of wind turbines (and that's not an exaggeration!) on top of mesas on both sides of the road. Then we took route 176  to New Mexico and to our final destination, Carlsbad.
